If you grew up in Australia, you don't need us to explain a meat pie. You've had approximately four hundred of them. You know.

If you didn't, it's okay. It's a savory pie. Ground beef, onion, great pastry. It sounds simple because it is, and that's kind of the whole point. Australians have been eating them at the footy, from the servo, at lunch on a Tuesday, for as long as anyone can remember. Nobody overthinks it. You just eat the pie.

Cow-a-Bunga is our version of that.

About the name

Yes, it's a Ninja Turtles reference.

When we were developing this pie, we had kids in mind from the start. Something hearty and fun that they'd actually get excited about — and honestly, Cow-a-Bunga just felt right. It's a beef pie. The Turtles are iconic. It packs a punch. We stand by it.

we really do 🐢
Why it works for kids

Savory, saucy, and secretly wholesome.

The filling is ground beef with onion, carrots, and celery — savory and a little saucy, somewhere between a Sloppy Joe and bolognese. It's the kind of thing kids tend to just… eat. Without the negotiation. The vegetables are in there, but they're not making a big deal about it.

Five simple things. One pie that disappears fast.

The pastry gets properly golden in the oven and holds everything together in a way that feels more like a real dinner than something you pulled from the freezer. Even if that is exactly what you did.

Dinner, sorted

Bake the pies. Round out the tray.

Make some mac and cheese, throw some fries or a side of vegetables on the tray while you're at it. And if you want to do a ketchup smiley face on the plate? Go for it.
